Family in the Grapes of Wrath

I read an article on 'theguardian' about how Grapes of Wrath shows that family extends further than blood relatives. It talks about how important it portrays families to be. An example of when this shows is when Rose of Sharon breastfeeds the hungry old man and how that is an act of salvation. There are many acts of community in the Grapes of Wrath. The overall message of the article, Families in literature: The Joads in The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, was that the Grapes of Wrath shows the length of the relationships that can form between blood relations and relatives despite all of the bad things that happen. Also, how hardships can make you realize the bonds that you really have.
