Steinbeck: The Unlikely Voice of the American Struggle
After reading the article, The Unlikely Voice of the American Struggle, on Steinbeck's experiences in his life I came to conclude that Steinbeck put his points of view/experiences into the novel, The Grapes of Wrath. The period of time that Steinbeck was born into was a tough time to be alive where they had the World Wars, the Great Depression, and all sorts of other suffrage. The article starts at the beginning of his life and progresses chronologically. It describes throughout the book how Steinbeck was always different in his life and wasn't the most normal person around. In conclusion, the article makes for a great source for the topic of comparing Steinbeck's life to the Grapes of Wrath. It is an overall well-rounded source that could work greatly for some of the other topics too.

I agree with this. He had a way of bringing his stories to life that could only come from actual experiences. Steinbeck's difficult life fed into his style of writing. He would rather rip apart a readers nerves than leave them satisfied which may be explained by his early life.
ReplyDeleteThis article seems like a great source to use. Steinbeck is an interesting author, I would like to read more of his books. Steinbeck seems to have had a very interesting life. I can't wait to read more of the book and the connections between Steinbeck and his novels.
ReplyDeleteI agree Steinbeck brings the harsh truth and lays it bare before everyone and doesn't sugar coat it or ignore the hardships of the Great Depression. This sounds like a good source to use.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Steinbeck does a good job of not holding back when talking about the struggle of the Great Depression. The way this book paints pictures with words so easily suggests that it comes from a more personal experience of the hardships that these people went through. This seems like a very good article.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that Steinbeck gives everything that he has on the hardships during the Great Depression. It allows readers to grasp a better understanding for that time period. This seems like a good source to use, great work Evan.
