Bronte using Jane Eyre to Criticize

BBC’s In Our Time podcast about Jane Eyre was extremely intriguing to listen to. One of the most prominent things that stood out to me was when they were talking about religion, more specifically, how the novel was used to criticize some aspects of this. After thinking about it further, I realized Jane Eyre included a lot of parts that could be considered criticisms. Not only did the depiction of Mr. Brocklehurst question the power of institutionalized religion had at the time, the depiction of the wealthy class as being selfish and rude while at Mr. Rochester’s house could be considered a criticism of the wealthy, selfish, and powerful aristocracy that filled The United Kingdom during that time period.

Any thoughts? Is there anything else Bronte manages to criticize or question using Jane Eyre?
