Why isn't the girl's school better off when it has a wealthy leader and many supporters?

In the book, it mentions that the school does have supporters that help to provide for the girls. It is obvious that it is either not enough support or the money is going somewhere else. I believe that Mr. Brocklehurst is taking some of this money. Mr. Brocklehurst is the treasurer and leader of the institution and is wealthy. It might be that some of his wealth comes from the supporters money.
What are your ideas?

  2. I agree with your answer. It seems possibly and likely that that is the reason. Mr. Bucklehurst could very likely be taking money for himself. There’s no one to stop him.

  3. I feel like that's true. He is obviously wealthy and it would be easy for him to take some of the money from the school. He also has a motive because his idea of having children go through hardships, ie. having low-quality clothes, not enough food, etc., is extreme.

  4. I also think that Mr. Brucklehurst is taking some of the money from the school. I think that it maybe tries to show this when his daughters have super nice clothes on when there was just an ordeal made about how the clothes for the girls are made out of cheap scratchy materials.

  5. I think Mr. Brucklehurst is a very selfish man. He wants everything to be in his control and everyone on the outside looking in to think it is a school doing everything right and building the girls great character. But in reality he is stealing a lot from the girls. The food is bad, clothing isn't fit for winter, and punishments can be rather harsh. So the reason I find for why the school is not better off is because he is a very selfish man.
