Why is Jane Eyre depressed?

I believe there are many factors why Jane is in fact depressed. The big one would be the verbal and even physical abuse that she gets in her home. Even the people who might consider her "family" mistreat her and act as though they hate her. Another reason would be that her mother is dead. Someone that is hard to live without is the person who gave birth to you. Jane even thinks that she is no good and deserves the treatment but she doesn't realize that she is in fact a really good person!

  1. I agree with the statement of her being depressed due to the physical and emotional abuse she has received almost all of her life thus far, but I do not agree with her believing she is a bad person. Jane knows she is very different from the Reed family, and understands that if she had all these different characteristics, then they would love her. But, she also knows they are bad people and she wishes to be nothing like them. In her own way she appreciates being different, just not being treated as though she is, and not being loved for her differences.
