Why are the servants changing their opinions of Jane so often?
It seems like the maids/servants are sometimes nice to Jane Eyre and other times not so much. I was wondering why they seem kind to her and assist Jane somedays, and other days they scold her and are rude to her. I believe it has something to do with Mrs. Reed; she is technically their boss, so the maids feel the need to side with her no matter what. And so it seems whenever they are alone or without Mrs. Reed, the servants are kinder to Jane for the most part. The other possibility I thought of, is that the servants feel that Jane is a very defiant child and so they try scolding and being cold to her to, in a way, teach her how to be better. They might feel since Mrs. Reed doesn't take care of Jane, that they need to act as the matronly force in Jane Eyre's life; this is kind of shown with Bessie when Jane Eyre is about to leave for school. These are my thoughts at least, and was curious what other people thought.
