What could have happened if Mrs. Reed was kinder to Jane Eyre?
I think that if Mrs. Reed was nicer to Jane Eyre from the start, then Jane wouldn't have been as sad and depressed growing up. Jane would be sad about her parents' and uncle's deaths but she would have had someone to go to for comfort whenever she felt lonely or sad. Also, Jane wouldn't have gone to the orphans' school and the story would be completely different than it is. So, what do you think? Do you think this would change how John treats Jane as well?

I believe if Mrs. Reed was kind the whole purpouse of the novel is diminished. If there was no abuse Jane would not have left. If Mrs. Reed would have treated her equally Jane would be a normal kid during the Victorian Era. She would not be seen as a burden, but as a child.
