Which character best represents the gothic theme?
I believe that one of the main characters that represents the Gothic theme is Mr. Rochester. To me it seems like there is always a dark cloud over him filled with mystery. Starting off with him being gone so frequently and not many knowing why. Then he had his estranged relation to Adele and her mother. And not to mention the oddness of his family and his past. All this adds up to a dark figure of a man with mystery in every corner of his personality. The Gothic theme is a relating to darkness, death, romance, family curse and madness. Jane can sense the strangeness in the Thornfieild home. Along with the mysteries of Grace Poole. But most of all Jane wants to know the mystery of Mr. Rochester. Her main concern is if she loves him or if he loves her.

I agree, and I believe that Grace Poole is the best character to represent the Gothic theme. I think this because she is super mysterious and you never really know why she is there at the time she is. There are a lot of things about her that just make me wonder about her character and what she is always trying to hide.
