Is Mr. Rochester a vampire-like figure?

In the book Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochester is an older man (older than Jane at least) who quite possibly sucks the liveliness out of Jane. As we learned in the book by Foster, a vampire is typically an older male figure who has a goal of sucking the life and innocence out of a younger, typically female, character. This to me is a great description of Mr. Rochester. We see examples throughout the book of why this is so. Can you find any of examples that prove this wrong/right? What're your thoughts on if Mr. Rochester is a vampire-like figure?

  1. I think you're onto something here, Evan. He is an unpleasant, MUCH older male, who tries to take her youth for himself by marrying her and claiming her as his own, much like a vampire might decide to turn his victim instead of just feeding on her. However, Jane does say several times that Mr. Rochester is fairly unattractive guy, and from what I understand vampires are typically thought to be extremely handsome/ beautiful beings.

  2. Yes he is. Rochester posses many of the characteristics to be a vampire figure. He draws Jane in to her own doom. With this and other factors a believe Rochester is a great example of a vampire-like figure.
