Can anyone understand the dialect?

Almost every sentence that a person with a dialect says, I have to look it over one or two times and I still don't understand it. The Joads' and the other southern migrant people words don't make any sense most of the time. This leads to more time I have to read this book. Please voice your frustration with this.

  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one upset with the lack of decent English. It's sometimes very hard to understand what exactly the characters are saying. However it does add to the vividness of the book. Making us feel like we are actually there, experiencing ho people talked back then.

  2. I agree with this. This is a really hard book to read and it takes awhile for me just to understand one page of the book. Normally I have to go onto Sparknotes and look over the chapter afterwards to make sure that I am understanding what I am reading.
