Why did Charlotte Bronte decide to really go in depth when talking about Lowood?
Throughout the book Jane brings up multiple memories or baggage from Lowood and in the beginning of the book Charlotte Bronte goes deep into describing the surrounds and the conversations and every aspect about Lowood. I believe Lowood and the memories there are always brought up throughout the book is because that is where everything started for Jane. Yes her home life was difficult but the struggles and hardship she went through at Lowood has really prepared her for her life. She always holds on to those memories and I think that is how she keeps on going in life. In the first podcast, they mention a lot about the school that Charlotte Bronte went to and it's quite similar to Lowood. I believe it's Charlotte's way of telling her story about her childhood and also coping with it.

We already knew before starting the book that Bronte wrote this book mixing her past experiences into it and I believe that Bronte really focused on Lowood because it was a key turning point in her life. I really like how you said "Lowood has really prepared her for her life" because it truthfully did. I believe without Lowood Jane would not be the same as she ended up being. I also like how you said, "telling her story about her childhood and also coping with it" because this book is all about Bronte!
ReplyDeleteI do agree with this. I also feel like her home life played a role in how she was treated at Lowood and her experiences there. I agree that Lowood is what really prepared her for life because she learn a lot different things in the many years that she was there and she finally realized that she needed to take control of her life at the end of the time that she was at Lowood.
ReplyDeleteI think it all has to do with that at Lowood is when she underwent so many changes. She had not been exposed to the world before Lowood so it is where she starts figuring everything out. It is also where she got her first real friend and this friend of hers helped show her a lot of lessons. It is where she also learned almost everything. Playing the piano, painting, and just being more of a lady. All these traits have helped her get a job and they just help her all throughout living at Thornfield and with St. John. So I think it went into depth because it is the foundation of her life really.
