Roles of Men and Women

In "From Patriarchy to Matriarchy: Ma Joad's Role in The Grapes of Wrath" By Warren Motley, he talks about the role Ma Joad plays in the novel. She is a central character that holds the family together and creates the community atmosphere and setting. Many people think Ma is the opposite of Casy but really she has been on the same side as him from the beginning. She is cohesive rather than framenting force.

  2. This sounds like a really good source to use. I think that it can tie into both the family theme and the roles of men and women theme. It says that she holds the family together and she plays a really important role in the book. I think that this is a really good source and I might use it as well.

  3. After reading through some of the article I have to say I like all of the points that you pulled out. The article talked about how women played a large role at the time and were in some cases just as important as men. The women "held families together" for say. I think this is a great source for anyone who is doing the topic of roles of men and women. Though this was not one of my top choices, I think that it would make for a great paper!
