Jane Eyre at 200 short story evaluation

I liked the first story better mainly because it had more depth to it and more relation to Jane Eyre. The forbidden love and eventual sacrifice. All ending with the implication of the infamous quote ¨Reader, I married him¨. The first story just seemed so much more interesting then the second full of scandal rather than mystery. However, this could relate to a topic the speakers talked about which was the comparison between Emily Bronte and Charlotte Bronte. I believe that the first story is more like the style of Emily, full of romance, scandal, and life struggles. Then on the other hand the second story about a couple with a misty history and lifestyle is more along the lines of a Charlotte novel. That being a story with mystery and questions but still the tang of love. At first I was planning on being bored for the entire sixty seven minutes of this podcast but it was definitely worth it and I would recommend it to others who have also read Jane Eyre. It gives great insight to the history and meaning of the novel.

  1. I agree with you that the first story had more depth to it and related to Jane Eyre more because at first when she thinks it is wrong for her to love Rochester since he is her superior. They definitely have a similar theme of forbidden love and eventual sacrifice. I thought that the second story was still interesting to listen to though. There is only a little depth into the past of the characters but you quickly start to understand their personalities. I loved it when, in the second story, Jen (I think that was her name) quotes Jane Eyre when she is writing in the notebook and then the guy writes a random line that he saw when he flipped through the book and makes Jen laugh extremely hard. Jen is similar to Jane in how they both are quiet and love to read. I also agree that this podcast is a good one to listen to if you liked Jane Eyre.
