Courtship (In Our Time)
The was a very interesting podcast. It was worth all 43 minutes. I noticed that they touched on Jane and Mr. Rochester's relationship. They talked about how it was different than your standard one. Where in most cases you see the heroic figure as the man in the relationship. Often times he goes through a quest of sorts to rescue the damsel in distress. However in Jane's situation the roles are reversed. She often times has to come to Mr. Rochester's rescue, even when they first meet. Another example being at the end of the book when she has to help him as a poor blind man. This got me thinking. What are some other examples of a couple breaking the common stereotypes of a relationship? Can you think of any?

To add onto what you were saying, I believe Jane and Rochester have a more realistic relationship compared to most courtship novels. Because, most of the time the couple immediately fall in love and nothing bad happens, so they just live happily ever after. In Jane's situation though, this is not what happens. Her and Rochester go through rough patches, and even break up, but eventually get back together. I believe that because of the added tension and distrust between Jane and Rochester, it reflects a more realistic relationship where both partners don't immediately fall in love with no consequences.
