Earlier in the novel it was stated that the uncle was dying. Since Jane is a very proud person and hates to bother anyone with her problems, I think she doesn't want to intervene in her uncles affairs. She also probably doesn't want to put anymore stress or conflict onto him.
Jane has already been let down by her family so many times and I don't think that she wants to experience that again. Who knows, maybe he is just as cruel as Mrs. Reed or he just wants Jane for work. I don't think she wants the disappointment that family has already given her.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Caitlyn here, she knows that the odds of her being welcome were probably slim. Also she feels she has other goals to get to in her life so messing with family affairs would probably add more on her plate than what she could handle. There is also the fact that St. John found out so much on her just by going to town that her news could have been heard already by her uncle's family that she would have to explain herself to strangers which is never good for ones health.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Caitlyn, Jane doesn't want to be let down any more. Jane has already been through so many disappointments in her life, she probably couldn't bare another. Or she completely forgot about it. She did leave Thornfield without a place to go or a plan. She was probably worried about where she would go next, instead of reaching out to her uncle whom she has never met.
