Why Did Rochester Feel the Need to Take in Adele

When Mr. Rochester talks to Jane about his past and why Adele was at Thornfield. He talks about how he had an affair with a woman named Celine. But when he found out that Celine was in relationship with another man he ended the relationship. He never claimed Adele as his own but when she is abandoned by Celine, Rochester takes her in.

I think that he feels a slight responsibility to have her take her in. That because he was a part of Celine's life he deserved a part of what he possibly saw as family. He also just simply could've been lonely. He doesn't have a wife and might just feel a need to have someone in his life so he can have someone to just feel a little more put together.
