What affects does romance have on the setting on the book?

I think it has a lot of big impacts on the book.  First off it lightens the mood between Jane and Rochester.  You could tell that there was a lot of tension between them and now that they are engaged Rochester seems to be happier.  But since the engagement Jane has become a little bit more tense but she is also very happy.  She feels that she is of a lower class than him and that's what makes her more tense.  She has liked Rochester for a long time though and so that she knows that he loves her back is a relief to her.  So overall it has lightened from being dark and gothic.

  1. I agree I would say that The setting of the book is affected. Rochester and Jane both talk about how the world is dreary at Thornfield and I can see how the romance lightens the setting.

  2. Although the romance may seem to lighten the mood I believe it will contribute to making the plot more interesting and ,depending on how the relationship goes, darker. For example if Mr. Rochester isn't all he seems to be and the relationship is bad for Jane it would make her world all the worse.
