How is Mr. Rochester so liked, if he is always so abrupt and rude?
In both Jane and Mrs. Fairfax's mind, Mr. Rochester is a little off and rude. Although this may be true, Mr. Rochester seems to have a wealth of friends. I believe it is due to his class level. In the time of the book, most rich people had relationships with other rich people only because of their class. This is the idea that most readers have when reading the beginning of this section. On the contrary, in the end of this reading, Jane starts to have feelings for Mr. Rochester. There might be more to Mr. Rochester than one might think or this might only be Jane's view. What do you think?

Mr. Rochester appears to have a lot of anger and sadness from Celine leaving him. Adele reminds him of Celine and he doesn't enjoy having the constant reminder of what he lost or never had. Now Jane has developed feelings for Mr. Rochester she doesn't pay attention to his rudeness and abruptness, she only sees the good in him.
ReplyDeleteMr. Rochester is definitely not the nicest man but I think at his core he's a good person. That's probably why everyone seems to like him. In addition, everyone knows that he suffers from moodiness and his demeanor can change rapidly so that could be another reason that people generally ignore his rude and brash behavior.
ReplyDeleteMr Rochester isn't always the greatest person but deep down it's there. I also think that people know his life hasn't always been the easiest so they give him a little more lead way then maybe other people.
ReplyDeleteMr. Rochester does seem to have a lot of anger and he is very judgmental. I think that it is partly because of how rich and high in his class he is and I think that he is a truly nice person, but he might just come off mean and judgmental to people, you need to get to know him more.
ReplyDeleteMr. Rochester isn't a great person at the surface, but we know that he is down deep, as he mourns Celine leaving him. He might appear to be meant to people, but I believe that he is nice on the inside, he is on the very upper class, so some people believe that this class of people are snobs, and believe they are better than everyone else. I think that he is a good guy, but you have to get to know him, and unlock his inside feelings.
