Did you see how Jane Eyre is a bildungsroman novel?

Some see this as a romance novel and others see this as a novel based upon class, but I see this as mainly a bildungsroman novel. I think that romance and class is definitely mixed in, but Bronte's main point was to show how Jane Eyre came up from nothing and made something out of it. I think that her coming of age began when she went to Lowood and it just kept taking off from there. As Jane grew older she moved away from Lowood went to Thornfield and became even more independent than before. This is definitely a great example as a bildungsroman novel.

  1. I also believe that this book is a bildungsroman novel, other than a romance novel. I also agree with you that they are both mixed in, but the main theme is that is a bildungsroman novel. Bronte shows us that she has started from the bottom at Gateshead, where she was treated terrible. Eventually, she makes it to Thornfield, where she is independent and makes money for herself.
